Helm is the package manager for Kubernetes: it packages application manifests into versioned charts and manages their install, upgrade, and rollback as a single release. Deis created Helm in 2015 and demoed the first version at the inaugural KubeCon; the project moved under CNCF governance in 2018 and reached CNCF Graduated status in April 2020. Helm is open source and maintained by the CNCF-governed Helm community rather than a single vendor; Helm 3, released in November 2019, removed the server-side Tiller component that Helm 2 had required.
