Micro Focus
Micro Focus was acquired by OpenText, which closed the deal on January 31, 2023. Its mainframe and COBOL tooling no longer sits with OpenText. On May 1, 2024, OpenText completed the sale of its Application Modernization and Connectivity (AMC) business, "formerly part of Micro Focus", to Rocket Software for $2.275 billion before adjustments. Rocket's announcement said it would offer COBOL and Enterprise Suite alongside host connectivity, application development and CORBA products.
In practice that means the tools this profile describes are now Rocket products. "Visual COBOL" runs COBOL on .NET and the JVM and is now sold as Rocket Visual COBOL, which Rocket's datasheet labels "formerly a Micro Focus product". "Enterprise Analyzer", used for legacy code assessment, is now Rocket Enterprise Analyzer. OpenText still maintains a Micro Focus brand page for the rest of the portfolio, and the microfocus.com address now redirects to OpenText pages. Older documentation, including pages on microfocus.com, still uses the Micro Focus name for these products.
