If you still run Oracle Database
The date that matters depends on the release. Oracle Database 12c and 18c are already out of Premier Support. 19c has Premier Support to December 2029 and Extended Support to December 2032. Release 21c ends Premier Support in July 2027 with no Extended Support, and the long-term release Oracle now calls 26ai (previously 23ai) has Premier Support to December 2031.
The realistic options:
- Upgrade within Oracle. Moving from an older release to 19c or 26ai restores Premier Support and keeps the application on Oracle.
- Buy Extended Support. Oracle sells it for specific releases for three years after Premier ends, as an extra fee on top of the standard support fee. Oracle's policy gives no percentage and waives the fee only for a short list of named products, so get a quote for your release.
- Move to Sustaining Support. It has no end date but adds no new fixes or security patches after Extended Support, so it is a stopgap, not a plan.
- Migrate. The Oracle to PostgreSQL guide covers scope, schema and PL/SQL conversion risk, and cost ranges.
Data modernization companies lists suppliers for database migration, and modernization costs gives budget ranges for comparison with an Extended Support quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is Oracle Database 19c still supported?
Yes. Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy lists Premier Support for 19c until December 2029 and Extended Support until December 2032. From 1 May 2027 Oracle excludes Java 8 related third-party software from 19c support, which mainly affects the AIX, zLinux, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows ports.
When does Oracle Database 12c, 18c or 21c reach end of support?
Per the same policy, Premier Support for 12.1 Enterprise Edition ended in July 2018 and its Extended Support in July 2022. For 12.2.0.1, Premier Support ended on 30 November 2020 (with a limited error-correction period to 31 March 2022) and for 18c in June 2021, neither with Extended Support. For 21c, an Innovation Release, Premier Support ends in July 2027 and Extended Support is not available.
Can I get extended support for Oracle Database?
Yes, for specific releases. Oracle Extended Support adds three years after Premier Support, for an additional fee on top of the standard support fee (policy). Oracle lists it for 19c to December 2032 and shows "TBD" for the long-term release now called 26ai. After Extended Support, Sustaining Support has no end date but adds no new fixes or security patches.
What can replace Oracle Database?
Teams usually move to PostgreSQL or a managed cloud database. The Oracle to PostgreSQL guide covers scope, cost ranges and risks.
