Databricks Assistant

Databricks Assistant was Databricks' natural-language coding assistant, embedded in notebooks and the SQL editor, that generated and explained SQL and Python code and helped fix errors using context from the surrounding notebook and Unity Catalog metadata. Databricks announced it in preview in mid-2023 and made it generally available across all supported clouds on June 27, 2024. In 2026, Databricks renamed and expanded the product into Genie Code, an agentic version that can plan and execute multistep data-engineering and analysis tasks rather than only suggesting code inline.
